My first year as a media specialist has come to a close and all I can say is WOW what a year it has been! The transition from English teacher to Media Specialist was smooth, but let's be honest, it was totally unexpected. Up until the final days of June 2015, I was still planning to live in the English world at Chestatee as I have for the past 11 years. However all of that changed when the Media Specialist position opened up and after interviewing, I was offered the job. So much has changed over this past school year, but I am thankful for those changes and I cannot wait to improve our space and our program. I created the infographic that you see here to showcase some of the highlights of our year. Three of my favorite events this year included: 1) Lunch & Learn: With the help of our WBL director, Holli Howard, we implemented a Lunch and Learn program that met every two weeks. Students were able to eat lunch and hear from guest speakers with a variety of backgrounds and experience. 2) Apply to College Day Tailgate: This year, we hosted our seniors in the annual apply to college day. During the month of November, we showcased our staff's college memorabilia & on the application day, we had a tailgate in the media center complete with a tailgating tent, food, drinks, and more. The students completed their applications to various colleges and had a great time! 3) Blind Date With a Book: This event during the month of February was a great success! We had a record number of checkouts as students checked out books based on what was written on their paper wrapping. When students completed each book, they wrote a review, received a complimentary drink, and were entered to win two free movie tickets and a gift card from Buffalo Wild Wings. I cannot say THANK YOU enough to everyone who made this year a success! Our students are incredible and I hope that they continue to use and enjoy the media center and the coming changes. The faculty and staff at Chestatee is amazing and I am so glad they let me implement some of my crazy ideas! Go War Eagles! Jenn Gibson, Media Specialist Renowned cardiologist, Dr. Ordway, spoke to our students about the heart's structure, its functions, and how to maintain heart health. Apply to College Month was all about educating students about their options whether it was a four year college or technical school or the military. Blind Date with a Book was a hit with our students. As you can see in this picture, it was difficult to keep the display stocked because demand and participation was so high!
